5 Reasons You Should NEVER Punish Your Cat

Reason #5: You Will Have to Keep Upping the Ante

Your cat is trying to tell you something, either a need they have or a situation that is causing them discomfort. Sure, a punishment might derail the behavior for a little while, but before too long, the cat will become impenetrable to the punishment and go back to needing to communicate their needs

What happens then? What happens when their need to avoid the negative situation they’re experiencing outweighs the negative consequence? You’ll need to increase the punishment, and that becomes very cyclical.

The key is, try to learn what your cat is telling you. Understand what is triggering the behavior and work with your cat compassionately.
