Take Your Cat for a Stroll

In a recent article on catios we discussed the importance of giving your cat some safe and enjoyable outdoor time. Have you ever considered a stroller as yet another means to get outside with kitty?

Cat lovers can easily take a walk with their pets using these strollers, since they are lightweight and easy to push without much effort. Most strollers have convenient entrance and exit access and are foldable for easy storage. Some even have cup holders and lower storage bins for easy access and convenience for their owners possessions. We found such a stroller called the Emerald Classic Pet Stroller by Kittywalk®.

Here are a few of the features in this practical and fun-to-use stroller which is purrfect for taking your indoor or older cat outdoors, to the store, on pleasant strolls, or even to the vet (there…we said it…the “V” word).  >^..^<

The Emerald Classic Stroller offers:

• Removable Carrier Section
• Great for traveling
• Handy Back Pockets
• Rear Safety Brake
• Easily Maneuverable
• Independently Turning Front Wheels
• Holds Pets up to 25 lbs

We spoke with the owners of Kittywalk® and they were kind enough to offer one that a lucky Purrington Post reader won.

Reasons to Consider a Cat Stroller

Events: Trying to control your cat on a leash within a crowd of people is no simple task. It is difficult to keep your pet from getting wrapped around someone legs, stepped on, or quickly devouring the trash or food it finds on the ground.

Veterinary Visits: Pet strollers are great for transporting your cat to the vet. You won’t have to worry about coaxing your pet into the vet’s office or protecting your pet from other animals that are sick, irritable and potentially aggressive.

Prevents Paw Problems: Concrete can harm your pet’s paws especially when it is hot or cold. Trash on the sidewalk or road can also injure your cat’s feet.

Injured or Old Pets: Injured or old pets that can not walk or can only walk limited distances need sunlight and fresh air just like we do. Cat strollers are great for getting your sick or older pet the outdoor diversion that it needs and deserves.

Easier to User than Pet Carriers: Many people prefer pet strollers over pet carriers since you don’t have to lift and carry a pet stroller to transport your pet.

Protection from Aggressive Dogs: A cat stroller will protect your pet from other aggressive animals that are not on a leash.

Easy Travel: It is much easier to travel with your cat when you have a stroller. You can easily transport your pet from place to place without having to worry about it getting loose in a strange and potentially dangerous area.

Avoid Urban Traffic: Owners that live in big cities use strollers to keep their cats or dogs from running into traffic or getting wrapped around other people’s legs.

Quality Time With Your Cat: Most cats don’t like walking on a leash unless they are trained to use them as kittens. Cat strollers are a great way to spend time with your cat while you both get some fresh air outside.

Tips on First Using a Stroller

Having a stroller for your cat is fun and very functional to have, however, you must first get your cat acclimated to the new device. One way to do this is to place treats inside the stroller to lure in your cat and while it is eating the treats in the stroller, stroke her and give her assurance. Place your cat often in the stroller even if you are not going to use it so that she will get used to it and see it as a positive experience. Before you know it, you’ll be walking around the park and enjoying the sun and breeze with your cat safely and happily along with you.

Happy strolling!
