Watching Online Cat Videos Is Good For You!

Well – the question had to be asked: “Can science prove that watching cat videos is actually good for your health?”

It turns out the answer is a resounding ‘YES’.  Now who would want to argue with science on this one?  >o<

Internet cat videos are a movement that simply can’t be ignored. In fact, almost 2 million cat videos were posted to YouTube in 2014, and it is estimated that these videos received almost 26 billion views. Furthermore, these ‘cat videos’ received more views per video than any of YouTube’s other content categories. Yup, those crazy cats of YouTube are definitely here to stay!  Need a cat fix?  No problem!

In her study, the most popular sites for viewing cat videos were Facebook, YouTube, Buzzfeed and I Can Has Cheezburger.  Online cat videos have more views per video than any other category of YouTube content.

The research study was conducted by Dr. Jessica Myrick (a media researcher at Indiana University). Myrick states: “We all have watched a cat video online, but there is really little empirical work done on why so many of us do this, or what effects it might have on us. As a media researcher and online cat video viewer, I felt compelled to gather some data about this pop culture phenomenon.”

Curious to know the findings of the study?  Read on….
