We’re Up for this Nutrition Challenge

The pet food experts at Nutram challenged 11 pets and their pet parents to join them in a 30-day wellness experience to help promote healthier lives for pets.  Starting this week and for the next 30 days, these pets will transition onto a holistic diet tailored to meet their dietary needs.

Our 3 macho mascots (Indigo, Newman & Mouse) were very excited when asked to participate in Nutram’s Optimum Transition Challenge (#NutramOTC).

All the pet parents will be sharing their transition tips, tricks, and their experience along the way. Curious to meet the pets that are taking part in the Optimum Transition Challenge and transitioning to Nutram?  Check out Nutram’s post here => Meet the pets

We will be posting updates on our experience here every week. Enjoy!

Week #1:  May 1 – 7

Our boys were pretty excited when the food bags arrived from Nutram.  They began the transition on Sunday May 1st and so far all 3 of them love it.  Our tabby (Mouse) has a habit of eating too quickly and as a result sometimes throws up – thus far no incidents with the Nutram food.  Stay tuned for next week’s updates after they’ve had a chance to transition from their current food.

Week #2:  May 8 – 14

Must say it’s been very positive.  Eating has been effortless. They eat everything and aren’t bored of the food (which has happened numerous times in the past with other dry food brands).  We’ve noticed an improvement in Indigo’s coat – it’s shinier and he seems a bit more energetic than usual (he’s a senior cat and at 16 this kind of behavior is noticeable). The other 2 seem happy and there has been no vomiting by Mouse (an uber quick eater) – it seems to satisfy him and he digests it well.  All indicators are a 2 thumbs up.

Week #3:  May 15 – 21

We decided to test things now that they’ve been on the Nutram diet for 2 weeks. Our cats get a combination of both kibble (Nutram) and soft food alternately through the day.  Their regular kibble is a premium brand and that’s what they liked best prior to the Nutram Challenge.  We put 2 bowls out for each – one with their old (favorite) brand and the other with the Nutram food.  All 3 of them ate the Nutram and left the other bowl entirely, with the exception of Mr. Piggy (aka Mouse – our tabby) who proceeded to eat some of the old brand (after having finished the Nutram) but proceeded to chirp at us because he wasn’t happy and would have preferred more Nutram.  The contestants speak for themselves…Nutram gets the win.

Week #4:  May 22 – 28

No more taste testing this week…they got Nutram for all their kibble meals.  Mouse has stopped throwing up completely (even though it was infrequent before, it’s still a noticeable improvement).  Indy (our senior) has shown an improvement in the sheen of his fur.  Newman (our tuxie) is a picky eater but has never once snubbed or walked away from the Nutram…this in itself is very positive as he gets bored of the same kibble usually after 1-2 weeks.

The Verdict

30 days in and we’ve have nothing but positive news to report. The Nutram Challenge has been a success by any measure and will now be a permanent part of their diet!
